If you are receiving Sandostatin LAR® Depot, your first step in this partnership should be making a commitment to keep monthly medical appointments. This approach will optimize your opportunities for controlling acromegaly with Sandostatin LAR® Depot.
During these monthly appointments, you and your doctor will be watching your GH-production — with a goal of normalizing your GH and IGF-1 levels. Your doctor will also monitor the size and activity of your pituitary gland, the effects of Sandostatin LAR® Depot and your other medications for any associated diseases (such as hypertension or diabetes), and your overall health and well-being.
You can further help your health care provider by keeping yourself well-informed about your condition, and taking an active role in your own care. Know your GH and IGF-1 levels, understand what elevated and reduced levels mean, and always keep a look-out for a return of old symptoms or any new symptoms.
