If your doctor recommends you as an appropriate patient to participate in the Program and you're eligible, you'll be able to receive your injections at home, administered by a specially trained registered nurse. To take advantage of this convenient way to receive your injections:

How the Sandostatin® Nurse Home Injection Program Works
Just Five Simple Steps to Receive Your Injections At Home
1. Your doctor recommends you for the program and submits your enrollment form
2. BioScrip®, the administrator of the program, verifies your eligibility
3. BioScrip® calls you to schedule your next injection at your convenience
4. A specially trained treatment nurse is assigned to you
5. Your treatment nurse visits your home and:
- Assesses your condition and notes any change in your status
- Gives the injection
- Makes the next appointment, following up with a reminder
- Sends a report to your doctor
Important Things to Know About the Nurse Home Injection Program
- The Program does not replace your doctor's care. It simply provides you with the convenience of receiving your injections at home. You should still go to your regular doctor check-ups.
- If you are new to Sandostatin® LAR Depot, your first dose must be received in your doctor's office.
- Depending on your insurance, your co-pay might change.
Finding Out if You're Eligible For the Program
The Sandostatin Nurse Home Injection Program is an additional benefit for all appropriate patients with diarrhea and flushing associated with carcinoid syndrome for whom Sandostatin® LAR Depot has been prescribed.
- Residents of all states except Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, and Rhode Island can participate
- The Program is available to patients covered by most commercial plans (HMO, PPO, etc)
- Patients with government-provided medical insurance (eg, Medicare Part B and D, or Medicaid) are not eligible at this time

Sandostatin® LAR Depot (octreotide acetate for injectable suspension) is indicated for long-term treatment of the severe diarrhea and flushing episodes associated with metastatic carcinoid tumors and for the long-term treatment of the profuse watery diarrhea associated with VIP-secreting tumors in patients in whom initial treatment with immediate release Sandostatin® (octreotide acetate) Injection has been shown to be effective and tolerated.
Important Safety Information
As with immediate release Sandostatin® Injection, the most frequently reported drug-related adverse events were biliary disorders (62%), gastrointestinal disorders (14% to 38%), and injection-site pain (20% to 50%). Hypoglycemia (4%), hyperglycemia (27%), sinus bradycardia (19%), conduction abnormalities (9%), and arrhythmias (3%) have been reported.
The controlled clinical trials that support the marketing clearance for Sandostatin® LAR Depot did not include determination of effect on tumor size or rate of growth.
